Emergence/ Laguna Library

Project - Laguna Community Library

Spring - 2016

DSN S - 526

This studio was an interdisciplinary studio with architects and interior designers. The architecture of the building is designed to integrate indoor and outdoor spaces while facilitating the dry desert climate of New Mexico. The essence of this design stems from three facets of culture derived from the Laguna tribe.

The symbol of the eagle represents power, protection, and wisdom to native cultures.  Emergence is a theme that transcends through all aspects of Native design, and affects the transitioning space between sky and land. The circle incorporates the landscape into architecture and creates an axial alignment between important elements of the surrounding context. These three facets bring a cohesion to the entire design and experience while reflecting the native community's ideology.
